Content is King: What makes a good website?

If you want a website that will get people coming back for more then you need to keep updating your website with relevant content.

Start by updating your site with important news events regarding your business, your community, or general tips that could help your customers to use your products better. For example, if your business sells gardening tools write a few articles about better gardening-something like ‘10 tips to a healthier garden’. Or if you are trying to sell your products online make sure you take high quality photographs to highlight the product's features.

These images are the only focus your users have, when they decide to purchase your products online. So the photos must be of the highest quality. That is not to say that the file size needs to be big. In fact you want as small a file as possible-so the web page will load quickly. I'm talking about making sure the photos aren't blurry or have too much, or too little, light in the photograph. It will not only help your customers but help build a relationship with that customer. It all helps to increase the likelihood of them buying your products again.

There are many other ways a website helps to build and develop a relationship with a customer, also known as relationship marketing. Relationship marketing usually involves a lot of time developing and maintaining these relationships. For those of you who are patient, you will reap the rewards. For example, a blog is a good way to publish news or ideas relating to your business. The advantages of a blog is that users can comment back to your initial message. It will make clients and customers feel more involved with your business. Although this method isn’t always as effective for a bigger customer base. You may find a blog less effective and overwhelming. A forum allows greater discussions between your community of customers and your business. Not only that, it allows them to interact and share ideas with each other, while strengthening your bond with them. They will keep coming back to your website for the social contact provided by the forum.

The major search engines do not care what your website looks like. Their only interest is your content. They base their rankings on what your website says, not what it looks like. So when you're thinking about what is important just remember content is what keeps customers coming back-design will keep them their initially.
